Looking for a new van and want to join the electric van revolution? Leasewell looks at the best models available this year!
The electric van revolution is well and truly on its way, with more and more manufacturers bringing in new electric models, with the likes of Ford, VW, PSA and Mercedes vans joining more established electric van brands such as Renault and Nissan in the market.
Large electric vans have been introduced in recent years, with maximum carrying capacity taking precedence over payload, these have been brought in alongside small electric vans which are designed for shorter urban journeys. As battery technology has improved, with increased capacity offering longer driving ranges, the market is now at the stage where the incredibly popular medium vans segment has become a popular option for electrification.
Electric vans overall have been designed with last-mile urban delivery services in mind. This role involves the electric van offering zero-emissions transport for carrying the parcel from distribution centre to its final location. Benefits are massive for air pollution in local areas, whilst most electric vans offer a driving range which will be sufficient for a day’s work on a delivery route.
So, which electric vans should you consider? Here are 5 of the best!
Best electric vans for sale
One of the longest serving electric vans for sale and undoubtedly one of the best. The Nissan e-NV200 offers a surprisingly generous 4.2 cubic metres for the small van segment and using technology from the Nissan Leaf passenger car allows for a 124-mile real world range, whilst fast charging to 80 percent charge can take as little as 40 minutes.
Renault Kangoo ZE
Following a similar formular to the Nissan eNV200, the Renault Kangoo ZE benefits from technological developments from the Renault Zoe supermini. The Kangoo ZE comes with a 33kWh battery with an official range of 143 miles, whilst there is a variety of different body styles available including the long wheelbase Kangoo Maxi, extended cab, and crew van options.
Volkswagen ABT e-Transporter
Developed by independent electric vehicle specialist ABT rather than being an in-house VW vans project, however it is officially sanctioned by Volkswagen, meaning it gets the same warranty as the standard Volkswagen Transporter T6.1. This is available in one body length, but also comes in five-seater kombi versions. The VW e-Transporter comes with a 37.3kWh battery mounted under the load floor offering a range of 82 miles.
The first all-electric van from Mercedes vans, if you are primarily doing short trips, then the Mercedes eVito offers all the benefits of a standard diesel Vito van, but with zero-emissions driving. The 41kWh battery offers an electric driving range of 93 miles and drives just like a standard Mercedes Vito. There are two body lengths available offering the same carrying capacity as the standard versions of the medium van, there’s also three driving modes to maintain battery charge.
Available to order now alongside electric versions of the Citroen Dispatch and Peugeot Expert sister vans, the Vauxhall Vivaro-e is the first electric van from Vauxhall vans. Like the standard Vivaro, the Vivaro-e is available in two lengths and a single roof height. There are two battery options: a 50kWh option offering a 143 mile range or a larger 75kWh alternative offering a hugely impressive 205 miles.
