The first ever fully electric van from Volkswagen is finally here, Leasewell takes a closer look at the new Volkswagen eTransporter!
Volkswagen ABT eTransporter
Available in panel van and kombi van guises, the new Volkswagen eTransporter is available to order now! The new electric van which has been developed in collaboration with German tuning specialists ABT offers a maximum range of 82 miles, whilst load volume is unchanged from standard diesel VW Transporter vans.
Last mile delivery solution
The new VW eTransporter is based on a modified versions of the standard VW Transporter platform and is fitted with a 109ps electric motor and a 37.3kWh battery pack found under the floor of the load area, this sends drive to the front wheels of the van via an updated version of the Transporter’s dual-clutch automatic transmission.
Despite the range standing at 82 miles for the Volkswagen eTransporter, Volkswagen expect that the majority of buyers will be using the new electric van as last-mile delivery vehicles, covering around 50 miles per day.
Alongside the 84 mile range, the VW eTransporter can travel from 0-62mph in 17.4 seconds, this may appear on the slower side, however with last mile deliveries the primary target of these new vans, opportunities to travel at this speed may not come about too often. VW have also revealed that the VW eTransporter may be offered with a 74.6kWh battery pack in the future, depending on market demand for such an offering. This would see the maximum range of the new electric van increase to around 150 miles.
Maximum load capacity ranges from 977kg to 1096kg, add a trailer to this and the total combined load weight reaches 3,770kg. The eTransporter is able to tow up to 750kg when hooked to an unbraked trailer, whilst load volume stands at 6.7 cubic metres.
The eTransporter offers support for 50kW fast charging, which allows the van to reach 80 percent charge from empty in as little as 45 minutes. You are also able to charge the battery via a domestic 7.4kW AC wallbox charger, which will fully recharge the vehicle in approximately five and a half hours.
There are two versions of the ABT eTransporter 6.1 available: standard models come with a generous level of specification which includes: a 6.5-inch infotainment system, four-speaker stereo, three-abreast seating up front and two USB ports. Opting for Advance spec models adds a number of standard features including: 17-inch alloys, heated windshield, body-coloured exterior door mirror housings, bumpers and door handles, LED headlights with separate LED daytime running light, electrically foldable exterior door mirrors and front and rear parking sensors.
